Migrate from Evernote 🐘

To migrate your notes and notebooks from Evernote, you'll need to perform a few quick steps. We've prepared this step-by-step, illustrated tutorial to make things easier for you.

Step 1 : Export Notes from Evernote

Due to the way Evernote's file format (.enex ) works, we recommend exporting your notebooks separately to keep your notebook structure the same way it was.

Open Evernote, and navigate to Notebooks from the left menu,

Then, right click on the notebook you'd like to export, and click

Export Notes from "Notebook Name" like this:

You will now be presented with a save dialog like the one below,

Select Evernote XML Format (.enex) from the 'Format' dropdown :

Because all your notes will be encrypted in your browser before getting uploaded to Cryptee; due to strong encryption and performance reasons, Cryptee is only capable of importing  .enex files up to ~25MBs each.

If your exported .enex file (containing your Notebook / Notes) is larger than 25MBs, please create smaller exports / notebooks with less notes in Evernote, and export it again, so that your .enex files are less than 25MBs.

Once you've exported all your desired notebooks,

It's time to open Cryptee Docs!

Step 2 : Import Notes to Cryptee

In Cryptee Docs, we recommend creating a new folder, for each of your Evernote Notebooks. Once you have created these folders, simply drag and drop the .enex files into these folders. Like you can see below :

Once the .enex file is uploaded, click on it to start the import process.

Cryptee will start analyzing the .enex file, and show the progress like below :

Please be patient, as this process could take a while depending on the number of notes you are importing.

Once Cryptee is done analyzing the .enex file, a popup will show up, and Cryptee will start encrypting & importing your Evernote notes.

Once again, please be patient, encryption and import will take some time.

When this process is completed, you will find all your individual notes in the folder:

Your individual notes will also have .enex extensions. Don't worry, this is just the extension for all Evernote notes and notebooks in general.

Finally, once you click on your note with the .enex extension,

Cryptee will automatically convert the note to a Cryptee Document, all your embedded images, PDF attachments, audio-notes etc. will be encrypted, placed alongside your note, and remain intact.
